It has been 27 years since British rock band Queen's legendary lead vocalist Freddie Mercury breathed his last. 27 years but Mercury's voice still sends fans in a tizzy, makes them want to break free, makes them realise that they are one of the misfits who can relate to the band. Fans of the celebrated and controversial personality, took to Twitter, to not just bereave his death but also to spread awareness regarding AIDS.

Twitter users have used Freddie's death anniversary to speak about AIDS as a concern and spreading awareness so more people are aware of the virus. Farrokh Bulsara aka Freddie Mercury, died at the age of 45, with the cause of death being bronchial pneumonia that resulted from AIDS. Since he was the first major rock star to have contracted and succumbed to the disease of AIDS, Mercury's death has since become an important event in the history of the disease. A foundation called The Mercury Phoenix Trust was acquired by Queen, the following year, to work towards raising awareness and working towards fighting the disease.
